DOUBLE BASSIST DR. PAUL ERHARD is professor of double bass at the University of Colorado College of Music in Boulder.  Paul's earlier training was as a classical and jazz double bassist, and he has been teaching and performing in both areas since joining the faculty of the CU College of Music in 1986.  He performs as a classical soloist and teaches extensively throughout USA and Europe, and has participated as a guest artist in many double bass symposiums in the Czech Republic, Germany and Hungary.  He has been a jury member for many international double bass solo competitions in Europe, including the Johann Matthias Sperger Competition in Germany. 

Since 1999, Paul has pioneered performing Indian Classical music on the double bass.  Inspired by the beauty, intricacy, and expressive quality of Indian music, Paul combines the rich singing tone of the bowed bass with the rhythmic energy of plucked jazz bass to create a new sound in Indian music.  In 2004 Paul formed the Indian Classical music trio ATMIC VISION as a means of combining the double bass with traditional Indian Bansuri flute and tabla to create a unique fusion of Eastern and Western music. 

Paul has made numerous research trips to India, and has studied with leading Indian musicians Prabir Bhattacharya, sitar, Roshan Bhartiya, sitar, and V. Krishnamurty, veena & vocal.  Paul earned his Masters and Doctoral degrees from The Juilliard School as a student of Homer Mensch, and his Bachelors degree from Eastman School of Music as a student of James VanDemark.  He is the winner of the 1984 Juilliard Double Bass Solo Competition.  More about Paul at www.amazingbass.net
