Teppo Hauta-aho

Born in Finland in 1941, Teppo Hauta-aho is both a performer and an extremely prolific composer. He played with the Helsinki Philharmonic from 1965 to 1972 and has been with the Finnish National Opera Orchestra since 1975. He has given numerous recitals and has appeared as soloist with orchestras. He was also the most "in demand" Jazz bassist in Finland throughout the 1970s. As a composer he has always been his own teacher. His catalog of works includes orchestral and chamber compositions, many works for solo instruments including a large body of works featuring the double bass.

Lasse Lagercrantz

Lasse Lagercrantz studied the double bass at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Prof. Olli Kosonen and at the Sofia Conservatory with Prof. Todor Toshev. He took his soloist’s diploma (second degree) in 1988 and received the Master of Music degree in 1991. He has participated in several master classes, including those by Frantisek Posta, Entcho Radoukanov and Franco Petracchi. He has performed as a soloist with several Finnish orchestras and worked widely as a pedagogue and chamber musician. He has established the Colourstrings method for the double bass, working in close relations with Géza and Csaba Szilvay.

Lasse Lagercrantz has taught in several master classes in Finland and abroad. He has trained teachers and given lectures at both Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in England, also Amiens and Lille Conservatories in France, as well as Sofia Conservatory and Gothenburg University. In 2007, he was invited to give a lecture at the ESTA Conference in Cremona. At present, Lasse Lagercrantz is Professor at The Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, and double bass teacher at the East Helsinki Music institute. He is also specialist double bass tutor of the Helsinki Strings.

Diana Gannett

dianweb.jpgDiana Gannett is a renowned American classical double bassist and educator, currently Professor of Double Bass at the University of Michigan School of Music.

Previous appointments include the faculties of Yale University School of Music, Theatre & Dance and Hartt School of Music, Theatre & Dance in Connecticut, Oberlin College Conservatory in Ohio, University of Iowa School of Music, Theatre & Dance, and the University of South Florida. For many years she held the position of principal double bass at Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her students have been winners in many solo competitions (ISB, ASTA, EMF, Aspen, and various regional competitions) and have also won positions in many fine professional orchestras and teaching institutions.

Gannett is a past president of the International Society of Bassists, founded by her former teacher, Gary Karr, and hosted its bi-annual convention at the University of Iowa in 1999.[1]

Björn Malmqvist

Bjornsweb.jpgBjörn Malmqvist studied at the Sibelius Academy, Finland with Olli Kosonen(diploma 1982) and also with Jean-Marc Rollez, Franco Petracchi and Todor Toshev for shorter periods. After three years in the Finnish Radio Symphony he returned to his native town Norrköping, Sweden, to become the leader of the bass group in  the Norrköping Symphony Orch. in 1987, and have stayed there since then. he also teach at the Academy of Music and Drama in Göteborg, Sweden. When it comes to solo playing he has directed more and more to contemporary music. This has led to some fruitful collaborations with different composers around Scandinavia, and he has premiered three concertos and a little nice bunch of solo pieces through the years. Some of them can be heard on his CD "Baltic Bass"(2005).
